Things to Do Within a Short Drive of McBee RV Park

McBee is a small town, but there is more to do within half an hour than most people expect. Here are the places our guests ask about most, all within an easy drive of the park.

McLeod Farms

One mile from the park, McLeod Farms is the reason many people know McBee at all. In summer it is peaches, and in fall it is apples, pumpkins, and the corn maze. The farm market and the antique museum are open year-round, and the ice cream is worth the stop on its own.

Carolina Sandhills National Wildlife Refuge

The refuge headquarters is right here in McBee, and the refuge itself covers more than 45,000 acres of longleaf pine. There are hiking and biking trails, a wildlife drive you can do from the truck, and good birding, including the endangered red-cockaded woodpecker. Admission is free.

Sugarloaf Mountain and Sand Hills State Forest

About 15 minutes north near Patrick, Sand Hills State Forest has horse trails, fishing ponds, and Sugarloaf Mountain, a sandstone outcrop that offers one of the only real overlooks in this part of the state. It is a good afternoon trip with a dog.

Hartsville

About 20 minutes southeast, Hartsville has a walkable downtown with restaurants, a brewery, coffee, and shops. Kalmia Gardens is a free botanical garden on a bluff above Black Creek and is especially good in spring.

Cheraw

About 25 minutes north, Cheraw has a historic district, Cheraw State Park with a lake and golf course, and the Pee Dee River nearby for paddling.

Darlington

Roughly 30 minutes away, Darlington is home to the raceway and the Darlington Raceway Stock Car Museum. Even outside of race weeks, the museum is a quick, worthwhile stop.

Back at the park

When you are done for the day, the pond, the fenced dog park, and the quiet are waiting. That is the whole idea.
